Hi all.
I was wondering if anyone likes Loreena Mckennitt.
I personally like her music a lot because it is influenced from a lot of countries such as irish music, arabic, classical and much more. I also like her singing voice and finally the musicians she is using. They are all very good and from various backgrounds.
Perhaps i like her because her music has some simmilarities to Greek music and i like the fact that she uses minor keys mostly. I like songs in such keys.
The song i like the most is called La Serenissima and it is instrumental. it can be found in her albums Live in Paris and Toronto as a live version and the original in the album book of sicrets but they are pritty simmilar the two versions.
If you don't know this amasing artist but you would like to find out more about her and listen to mp3 samples of her music you can visit http://www.quinlanroad.com/

Enjoy.

I've heard only one of her songs (The Lady Of Shalott), but it was very good. It was in a major key (so it might not score points with you Nikos, lol), but you could tell she was using real musicians and that those 'real musicians' were really good. lol.

IMO, she far surpasses enya (SP?) for the best voice in that genre...and she didn't even have to go pop!

Thanks for posting. lol. It doesn't mean that i don't like at all major pieces but minor are my favorite. Yes you are right all the instruments she is using are real and i especially like the fact that she uses harp and i think she is the one that plays it also. If she was using flute she would use my two favorite instruments then lol.

Nikos:
She does in fact play the harp. I love her latest album 'An Ancient Muse'. Another good song is 'Highwaymen.'
Siding with Bauer: she does by far surpass enya when it comes to female singers. her voice just has this magestic, powerful quality to it, that many singers these days, be them Celtic or not, do not have.

Hi.
I didn't have the chance to listen to ther latest album yet but i hope to do this soon. The albums i own at the momennt is the live in Paris and Torondo and one called words and music which is different samples from interviews she had and music in the background from the album book of sicrets.
I didn't listen much of enia's songs but i didn't understand why people compare the two. They don't sound simmilar to me. Enia's music sounds more relaxing and she uses more keyboards if i remember right. I also have the impression that she uses effects for her voice. On the other hand loreena's sounds are more folk and world influenced and the voice we hear is exactly how she sounds like. But as i said i didn't listen much of enia so i might be wrong. I like enia's song OrinocoFlow.

that's right Nikos. hence my "going pop" reference when I was talking about Enya.

Loreena is one of my favorite artists. I considder her mood music though and don't listen to her stuff every day. I bought The Book of Secrets almost 10 years ago. I do like Enya though. I haven't heard her new album but I hope to buy it soon.
